Rafał Geremek
Deputy Mayor, City of Gdynia
Born in 1966, economist, graduate of the University of Gdańsk, Department of Transport Economics. Professionally involved in management and finance for many years. First, at the Institute for Market Economics, he was responsible for project budgets and sectoral research. Later, at the PCK Maritime Hospital in Gdynia, he served as Deputy Director for Economic and Administrative Affairs, overseeing budget planning and implementation, financial policy, and investment and renovation projects.
Between 2001 and 2024, as Deputy Director for Finance at the National Marine Fisheries Research Institute in Gdynia, he was responsible for financial and tax policy, controlling, accounting and payroll matters, planning and implementation of the institute’s budgets, acquisition, negotiation, implementation and settlement of domestic and foreign contracts funded by external sources. He also co-created and implemented the institute’s development strategy.
A former member of the supervisory boards of the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone and the Municipal Services Company.
In his career, he has also worked at the ministerial level. In 1998-1999, served as the Director of the President’s Cabinet at the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection.
An experienced local government official, twice elected to the City Council. In 1994-1998, as a city councillor, he was the chairman of the Audit Committee and a delegate of Gdynia in the Communal Union ‘Dolina Redy i Chylonki’. In the 2006–2010 term, he was again elected city councillor and served as Vice-Chairman of the Gdynia City Council.
Co-author of several publications on municipal services and local government strategies. For six years, he has also taught classes for students at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk. He has been awarded the Bronze and Silver Crosses of Merit.
